Child Development

“There is in every child at every stage a new miracle of vigorous unfolding.”~Erik Erikson

As children grow and develop, they often acquire specific skills within predictable age ranges. These skills are often referred to as developmental milestones.

Childhood development can be divided into five areas: cognitive, communication, physical, self-help or adaptive, and social/emotional.

It is important to remember that developmental areas overlap. Learning in one area of development can enhance learning in other areas. Although children often acquire skills at predictable ages and stages, the actual age when a typically developing child reaches a milestone may vary because each child develops differently, according to their own pace.
